Kitab Majmu' Syarh al-Muhadzdzab is a masterpiece of Islamic jurisprudence that covers various aspects of Islamic law and practice. It is based on the Quran, the Sunnah, the consensus of the scholars, and the analogical reasoning. It also compares and contrasts the opinions of different schools of thought and provides evidence and arguments for each position. It is a valuable source of guidance and reference for anyone who wants to learn and follow the Shafi'i school of jurisprudence.
Kitab Majmu' Syarh al-Muhadzdzab was written by Imam An-Nawawi, one of the most prominent and influential scholars of Islam. He was born in 631 AH in Nawa, Syria, and studied under various eminent teachers in Damascus. He was an expert in hadith, fiqh, tafsir, usul al-fiqh, and other sciences. He authored many books, such as Riyad al-Salihin, Sahih Muslim bi Syarh an-Nawawi, Al-Minhaj Syarh Sahih Muslim, Al-Adhkar, and others. He was known for his piety, asceticism, devotion, and sincerity. He died in 676 AH at the age of 45.
Kitab Majmu' Syarh al-Muhadzdzab was originally a commentary on Al-Muhadzdzab, a book of fiqh written by Imam Abu Ishaq al-Shirazi, one of the leading Shafi'i jurists. Imam An-Nawawi started to explain and elaborate on Al-Muhadzdzab with his own insights and knowledge. However, he did not complete his work before he passed away. He only reached the chapter on riba (usury) and explained half of it. His work was then continued by Imam Taqiyuddin As-Subki, another prominent Shafi'i scholar who died in 756 AH. He completed the chapter on riba and also explained the chapter on buyu' (trade). However, he also did not finish his work before he died. His work was then completed by Sheikh Muhammad Najib Al Muthi'i, a contemporary scholar who is the head of the department of hadith and its sciences at Ummu Dourman Islamic University in Khartoum, Sudan. He explained the remaining chapters of Al-Muhadzdzab with his own style and method. He finished his work in 12 volumes, making the total number of volumes of Kitab Majmu' Syarh al-Muhadzdzab 23.
